3rd Founding Anniversary

As we celebrate our 3rd Founding Anniversary, let us remember and pay tribute to the sterling dedication and unwavering passion of the early and recent officers of the organization who have steadfastly and commendably passed on the baton of leadership to slowly but surely transform Samahan ng mga Kabataang Marinduqueno into what is today and onwards.

The efforts of our advisers, Dr. Myrna M. Profeta, Engr. Nestor M. Japis, and Ms. Myra Lydia M. Profeta and the compassion and perseverance of the 17 pioneering members of SAKAMAR, must be kept reverberating in our hearts as we carry on the torch of serving our kababayan from effectiveness to greatness in some simple yet helpful projects.

It is therefore, our obligation to continue to work together for a better SAKAMAR to enable it to become truly an organization of the Marinduquenos, for the Marinduquenos and by the Marinduquenos. God Bless You.

To the new officers, congratulations to all of you…
To the new members welcome to the organization!

ROMEO A. MATAAC, JR.

Marinduque in my 14 Years

Justin Angelo Manrique

By: Justin Angelo Manrique

I’ve been living this wonderful province for all of my 14 years. Through those 14 years, I’ve learned to walk, to talk, to count, to write, to read and to question whatever I read. Marinduque has never fell short of giving me anything.

Now, I want to give back to the province. As the years passed, my love for the province and the people grew. I’ve decided. I’ll be in politics in years to come. To me, the politicians are the key to the success in of a province, like Imee, Imelda and Bongbong Marcos of Ilocos Norte or the Singsons of Ilocos Sur. I don’t necessarily mean the political dynasties, but the politicians, if they truly work for the province, are the key to bringing success. I believe that Marinduque can compete with provinces like Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur or Palawan. May potential mandin ang Marinduque. I want to be in politics when my time comes and help improve or bring our beloved home.

I strongly believe that our province can be at the top. If only we select leaders who will truly serve our home. We are but a 4th class province with problems in electricity and water. That’s a few of what I wanna change. Together, we Marinduquenos can do it!!! We are gonna be on the top when the time comes. And I vow not to take part in politics in National level (Senator-President) until this province reaches the top. We can do it, mga kababayan! Maganda mandin sa Marinduque! LET’S GO!

Marinduque Moriones Festival 2012 Schedule

Moriones Festival

The Moriones Festival is a festival held on Holy Week on the island Province of Marinduque, Philippines. The “Moriones” are men and women in costumes and masks replicating the garb of biblical Roman soldiers as interpreted by local folks. The Moriones or Moryonan tradition has inspired the creation of other festivals in the Philippines where cultural practices or folk history is turned into street festivals.

The festival is characterized by colorful Roman costumes, painted masks and helmets, and brightly-colored tunics. The towns of Boac, Gasan, Santa Cruz, Buenavista, Torrijos and Mogpog in the island of Marinduque become one gigantic stage. The observances form part of the Lenten celebrations of Marinduque. The various towns also hold the unique tradition of the pabasa or the recitation of Christ’s passion in verse. Then at three o’clock on Good Friday afternoon, the Santo Sepulcro is observed, whereby old women exchange verses based on the Bible as they stand in wake of the dead Christ. One of the highlights of this festival is the Via Crucis, a re-enactment of the suffering of Christ on his way to the Calvary. Men inflict suffering upon themselves by whipping their backs, carrying a wooden cross and sometimes even crucifixion. They see this act as their form of atonement for their sins. This weeklong celebration starts on Holy Monday and ends on Easter Sunday. Continue reading

Message from Mr. Tony Monteras

Hello Jhay-R & SAKAMAR Members.

Got yah!  Napadako ako sa inyong bagong site this afternoon at nabasa ko ang lines inyong dalawa ni Ian (Magdurulang, working in Qatar) pero presently having his vacation sa ‘Pinas.  It’s good naman at nagkaroon kayo ng chance to know each other through your blogs at SAKAMAR.

With regards to Ian, he will be back to Qatar again within a couple of days from now and balik-homesick na naman siya kaya ang aming napapagtuunan lang nang pansing dalawa whenever we’re free from work ay ang pagsulat o pagbisita sa Marinduque Forum & his site. Continue reading

Fight for Electric Power Problem

It is every Marinduqueno’s dream to have a permanent solution to our perennial power problem.   We are tired of “Band Aid” and politically motivated solution to our half a century old problem which has held back the growth and progress of our province.   We believe that to have a lasting solution it is important that we hear from the authorities to find out the real situation as well as the options available to us.

Mr. Romeo Mataac receives token from MFSMI. (L-R: Former Mayor Pedrito Nepomuceno, Romeo Mataac, and Ret. Gen. Recaredo Sarmiento)

Last September 3, 2011 the Sakamar invited by the Marinduque First Saturday Movers, Inc. on its monthly meeting held at The Patio of the Legend Villas, Mandaluyong City. Director Benedicto B. Peralta and Orlando M. Andres discussed and rendered a very enlightening talk about the power situation in Marinduquee.

The MFSMI initially have thought of forming a summit workshop of  all stakeholders with the aim of having a legally sanctioned program for the rehabilitation of Marelco and, most importantly, in having a reliable and affordable source of power.
